What is iOS 7 and why can’t I access new features?

iOS 7 is the newest software available from Apple for running your device and must be installed in order to take advantage of the new features for My Daily Journal.

Users of My Daily Journal 2.0 or above should check the FAQ in the app.

How do I reset my password?

1) Make sure that you have the latest update, you can check this by going to the app store. The price will no longer show, it will either say "installed" or "update". If it says "installed got to step 2, if it says "update", go ahead and update. 2) Follow the instructions here (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4094) for gaining access to documents on your device. 3)There will be a file called "MDJ.sqlite", this is your data. There my also be some .png files listed. These are any custom photos that you added. Click "Save To" and select the destination that you want to back the files up to. I would create a special folder for them so that they are easy to find. 4)After the files have been saved, delete the app. 5)Reinstall the app. 6)Go back to iTunes an use the instructions in step 2 to view the files available in 'My Daily Journal.' 7)Delete all of the files listed. 8)Click Add and Add the files that you backed up in Step 3. 9)Launch the app, and you will be prompted to set your name and password. All of your data should be restored.

How do I delete a category?

Swipe left to right across the name of the category. A delete button will appear. Press it and the category will be deleted.

How do I edit a category?

Hold down on the name of the category for about 2 seconds and a dialogue box will pop up that will allow you to edit the name

How do I place an entry into a category or edit a category an entry is in?

Placing an entry into a category is done from the tag icon on the bottom list of icons. Press this icon when in the entry, then press on each category you wish the entry to be in which puts a checkmark next to it and press again if you wish to remove entry from category thus removing the checkmark.

Note: Each entry must be placed into a category individually by pressing the tag icon on that entry so all edit to a category or adding a category are all done using the tag icon. The search page is reorganized based on the changes made to each entry.

How do I change the date of an entry / make an entry for a past date?

iPad - on the iPad tap the date and time of the entry located at the center of the page near the top. A menu will pop up allowing you to change the date of the entry

-iPhone/iPod Touch - Tap the icon and the time adjustment screen will slide into place allowing you to change the date of the entry.

How do I type in landscape?

In portrait, tap the screen so that the keyboard comes up. Then rotate your device to landscape. If this doesn’t work, try resetting your device and using the procedure above.

How do photos work?

To add a photo as a watermark, tap the icon and select the desired photo from your photo library.

Can I add a photo inline?

The quick answer is nope. The more honest answer is we’re working on it and plan on including it in an update. Stay tuned.

Can I use a stylus with my journal?

No. We've had a couple of requests for this and if we can find a way to do it well, we will definitely get it in a future update.

How do I backup/sync my journal?

Go to Settings and tap the Backups Tab, Tap Dropbox link, if you are not already linked and select ‘Backup’. Your entire journal will be backed up to Dropbox. To restore tap the cloud icon and select ‘Restore’. Warning-- restoring from Dropbox will overwrite the current entries on your device, so if you have made entries since your last backup and then you try to restore, they will be lost.

This process can also be used as manual sync. To manually sync your journal, you would go to the cloud menu and push the backup button on the device that has the most current journal. And then you go onto the device you want the journal on and hit restore. It is important to note that if you have multiple journals on different devices you cannot have two backups on dropbox unless you use a different account for each. Each time backup is pressed it replaces the file on dropbox so the restore is the only way to match the two or use a different account to keep separate.

Note: The backup file on dropbox is not meant to be read by the user. It is only a backup that is meant to be used for restore purposes.

How do I change my name on my journal?

Go to settings and press the security icon. Then tap the actual passcode word and you will be taken to the setup page to edit the name of your journal.

How do I change my password?

Changing your password is far different than resetting the password. To reset the password, go to settings on the bottom left. Then tap the security icon and press on the actual passcode word and you will be taken to the setup page where you originally setup the passcode. Remember, the passcode is case sensitive and must be entered correctly in order for the app to open as there is no enter to go in.

How do I get rid of a picture I put in the background?

On the entry with the picture, tap settings and then hit the style icon. Tap reset reset background and it will go back to the paper.

How do I share(mail, PDF, Facebook)?

Sharing is off by default to protect your privacy. To turn it on, go to settings, select security, then slide the sharing button to on. Then use the sharing icon to access these features.
